Remember that the core encompasses the gameplay, as well as other rules that define how the game works and is played, while the shell concerns how the game is shown to and interpreted by the player. We then considered narrative theory for game characters more deeply, including characters archetypes and stereotypes, backstory, setting, plot, narrative mode, and theme.

Week 1 summary

In this first week, we have discussed the design of video game characters in terms of both narrative and gameplay.
