This course was all about practical examples and tasks, related to some key features of Asian mathematics education.

Now that you are nearing the final steps of the course, it would be good to reflect on your personal practice and how you might embed some of the principles. It could be useful to initially pinpoint one relative small area and make a concrete plan. Even if it’s only one task in one lesson at first, it could be the first step of something more.

You can think about the following things:

  • Are there particular topics in your classroom practice where you think one or more of the principles could be directly applied? If so, why not find one lesson where you could make a change?
  • If you think you first need more practice in the principles yourself, follow up some of the additional references or look up textbooks for the year(s) you teach. If you haven’t done the course World Class Maths: Asian teaching methods you can find more underpinning research there as well.
  • Maybe there are more colleagues that would like to work on implementing these principles. Working together, perhaps even with support from senior leadership, can also be a good way to get such changes going.

All these things have in common that you work on change, constantly improving classroom practice.
