Welcome to this course

To design a successful career it's critical your child learns to understand who they are. Meet Neil Finnie, he will help you through the course steps.

We all want career fulfilment and happiness for ourselves and we definitely want to support our children in finding theirs.

To enable your child to start designing their own career success it’s vital that you understand the importance of self-understanding and how to guide your child through the process of reflection and self examination. Your child will need to find their inspirations, work motives and drivers to create a solid foundation for future career success and to reflect on the technical and human skills they posses and require to succeed in their future professional journey.

This course is delivered over two weeks, but feel free to move through at your own pace. By the end of the course you will be in a position to confidently provide positive guidance and support for your child and to navigate a number of exercises that will help them think about how they can start reflecting on their professional development and journey.

We have divided the course into two elements. In the first week you will learn about the importance of self understanding in regards to career design. In the second week you will guide your child through a number of exercises designed to help them begin to self reflect and examine their work motives, drivers and interests.

At any point you can move back through the course and even enjoy some suggested reading and other materials you may find interesting. Throughout the next two weeks we would like you to discuss and share your own thoughts on the topics explored.

Week 1 is all about the important of self reflection for career success:

  • We will look at the stats around career fulfilment
  • Understand the different work motivations and drivers
  • Explore the Japanese concept of Ikigai
  • Build an understanding of reflections tools

Week 2 uses your knowledge to help your child

  • Think about their passions and interests
  • Identify the technical and human skillsets they possess
  • Map out their career design blueprint
  • Review their own competencies and how they can acquire the skills needed for future success
