Welcome to Microsoft Future Ready: Fundamentals of DevOps Practices. This course will cover the core values and practices of DevOps practices and how organisations can benefit from moving toward a DevOps culture.

Course Content

In this course, you will learn the core values and practices of DevOps, how to become an effective change agent in your organisation, and the best practices to rapidly deliver high-quality software. You will learn the foundational elements of DevOps:

  • Implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration as code.
  • Building and deploying automatically to production often and consistently.
  • Testing automatically before and during production.
  • Tracking production to align with suitable metrics to improve business results.
  • The labs in this course provide you with opportunities to practice implementing a DevOps pipeline by using Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS).

Who is This Course For?

This course is intended for developers working in an organization delivering software, either in development or in operations, and IT pros who have some knowledge of and experience working with cloud-based solutions, and some experience using Microsoft Azure, who want to expand their skills.

Course Schedule

This course is set up in a self-paced format. You can listen to the lectures and attempt the quizzes at your pace. You should aim to complete this course in 5 hours a week for 4 weeks or around 20 hours.

Prerequisites

  • Experience working in an organisation delivering software, either in development or in operations; and a basic understanding of version control and Agile software development processes.
  • Experience working with cloud-based solutions, preferably some experience using Microsoft Azure, Team Foundation Version Control, ASP.NET MVC, and Visual Studio Team Services.

The subsequent courses in this DevOps series provide more detailed material on specific methodologies of DevOps practices.

Note: Most labs in the course do not require understanding the code in the application to follow the lab instructions. However, working knowledge of ASP.NET MVC would be useful to complete advanced labs, such as Feature Flags.
