Introduction to Being a Good Team Player

So if we’re going to get real about teamwork and collaboration then what we really need to do is look at ourselves and figure out how we are when we’re on a team. There are certain behaviors that we need to have, there are certain qualities we need to have in order to work effectively with others. This next video is about looking at some of those qualities, what we think constitutes being a really good team player and allowing you to reflect a little bit on whether that sounds like you or whether you have a few things that you might want to work on.

And as a bonus, we found a really cool video about how to answer the team player question in an interview. No matter what job you go to or if you’re interviewing people, almost universally, we run into the question “tell me about a time you were on a team” or “are you a good team player ?” We found a good video that will give you some clues on how to answer that question. So, teamwork and collaboration depend on people who know how to play. Take a look at these videos and we’ll catch you at the next lesson.

Before we can effectively participate in a team, we need to look at our own team player skill sets.

This video talks about effective team player skills and the following exercise will ask you to reflect on your own capability in these different areas. If you find that you need to develop some team player skills, think about opportunities you might have at school, at work, or in other settings to volunteer your time.

Soft skills are best developed in practice with other people, so we encourage you to find people you can work with. You might just have some fun along the way!
