#LancsBox: KWIC

This video teaches how to produce concordances in #LancsBox X.

Vaclav Brezina shows how to search corpora in #LancsBox and how to produce concordances, lists of all instances of a word, phrase, grammatical structure etc. in the corpus displayed in a special format called ‘KWIC’ (‘key word in context’).

This technique can be used, for example, to:

  • Find the frequency of a word or phrase in a corpus.
  • Find frequencies of different word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives.
  • Find complex linguistic structures such as the passives, split infinitives etc. using ‘smart searches’.
  • Sort, filter and randomise concordance lines.

For more information, visit #LancsBox user guide.

If you find the instructions hard to follow in the video, you can access them in PDF format from the downloads section below.
