#LancsBox: KWIC
Vaclav Brezina shows how to search corpora in #LancsBox and how to produce concordances, lists of all instances of a word, phrase, grammatical structure etc. in the corpus displayed in a special format called ‘KWIC’ (‘key word in context’).
This technique can be used, for example, to:
- Find the frequency of a word or phrase in a corpus.
- Find frequencies of different word classes such as nouns, verbs, adjectives.
- Find complex linguistic structures such as the passives, split infinitives etc. using ‘smart searches’.
- Sort, filter and randomise concordance lines.
