You are welcomed to the third week of the course. This week we focus on how schools become inclusive, exploring support systems within the school to support this transition. The relevance of involving all aspects of the school community and methods of facilitating this shift to inclusion is discussed, supported by samples of good practise. It is important to realise that inclusion does not end with the teacher and the school. It goes from the school leadership and management down to the admin team and the support team as well. Every aspect of the school community should be trained and ready to support inclusion.

So in this discussion, we look at the level of the school, keeping in mind the rights of the child and the support of families. This week will be facilitated by Vanessa.
In this week, we focus on the school – the heart of the inclusive education project.

In the first week we talked about the importance of the value of social inclusion in society. Last week we considered the child with a disability in the family. Now we are tackling the school itself, and we thought it was appropriate to invite a Non-Governmental Organisation, Inclusive Education South Africa to share their expertise. By way of example, we showcase inclusive practice in Pinelands North primary school. We hope that during this week you will identify some available tools to begin to create and implement more inclusive practices. For teachers, we will include some useful strategies if you want to start transforming your own schools.
