Introduction to Emotional Intelligence

If we had to single out one soft skill that is most in demand in today’s hypercomplex world it would be emotional intelligence. This lesson is meant to let you reflect on your own levels of emotional intelligence and determine what you may need to learn more about when it comes to this critical subject.

There are different dimensions of emotional intelligence and competencies for you to focus on developing. At its most fundamental, emotional intelligence is the ability to sense other people’s emotions and regulate our own emotional states. Studies have shown that the star performers in any organization almost always exhibit high levels of emotional intelligence, rather than sheer intellect. At the end of the day, “what you know” may get you in the door, but “how you are’’ will get you that promotion.
