Video: Summary and Conclusion
In summary, tourism planning involves understanding the nature and the characteristic of tourism. We need to understand it is demand-led, it is about delivering enjoyable and memorable experiences. Tourism planning is about looking at it holistically in terms of development,in terms of initial planning, the research you can conduct in terms of feasibility studies, construction and management and operations. Tourism planning is about meeting the needs of the visitor, making the attraction attractive and appealing, and it is undertaking the facilitate long-term success. We want the attraction, the destination to be sustainable of course. So when we talk about tourism planning we need to adopt certain principles and guidelines. And I shared with you four basic principles as I mentioned earlier on.
Tourism planning involves adoption of principles and guidelines and I shared with you four basic planning principles of order,balance,co-ordination and establishing an appropriate experience. And if you can use and apply these principles, the chances of you developing a successful sustainable attraction will certainly be much higher. You need to make sure that you undertake certain feasibility studies.Yes,typically yes. You will need to undertake a site and physic feasibility, market feasibility and financial feasibility study. Oh,I’ve forgotten feasibility, it need to be undertaken is that of political feasibility and undertaking an analysis of what the stakeholders concerns and issues. We need to understand the planning process and I shared with you planning is simply about balancing demand and supply.
So when demand is greater than supply, it means there is a need and if there is a need then we undertake a planning action to balance between supply and demand. We need to obviously know what are the procedures.
In conclusion,if we wished aim to achieve international standards with our attraction in our planning, we must look at it from that perspective, not from local or the mistake perspective. You must plan and develop to satisfy user needs and preferences, you don’t plan for yourselves you plan for the user. Good planning and design is important, we must control over-use,crowding and mass tourism as I shared with before. If we do not control tourism, tourism is up controlling you and you do not want be in the situation. Good management is important as management must have vision. They must effectively protect resources and minimize any negative impact.
And you need to plan for change and for the future because as we know things are not steady, things will change over time and you must plan for this. So thank you very much for listening.
