TRACY ROBINSON: If you’ve enjoyed our short course ‘Implementing Innovation in Healthcare,’ Monash University is thrilled to let you know that we also run a unit in the Master of Health Management, titled ‘Implementation and Innovation in Healthcare.’ This unit covers many similar topics but in much more depth over 12 weeks as part of an award course. In the past, healthcare systems focus more on quality and safety, identifying and removing variation. This is important, but if we are to address the widely touted 17 year gap between new evidence and clinical practice we need a more nuanced understanding of how to create learning health systems.

‘Implementation and Innovation in Healthcare’ focuses on the skills and knowledge needed for translating new evidence into practice and embedding continuous learning in healthcare systems. It includes stakeholder engagement, data systems for generating and moving new knowledge across professional and organisational boundaries. This is a multidisciplinary endeavour and we will also explore how to scale and spread innovation and Monash is thrilled to be at the forefront of teaching these skills and knowledge in this emerging area of need not yet widely embraced at a postgraduate or workforce level. This unit contributes to several Masters award courses in the School of Public Health here at Monash, learnings that will increase your capacity and capability for leading and managing health services.
