Sustainability is a complex but fundamental concept in today’s world.

We are living in a world where planetary and societal boundaries are being compromised, and the human impact on all parts of the earth’s ecosystem is becoming more pronounced. What can be done to eliminate harm, and ‘do good to work toward a resilient and thriving future?

This short course in Leading Sustainable Organisations and Communities is designed to provide you with a baseline awareness and understanding of contemporary sustainability thinking, frameworks, and leadership approach. Innovation and diverse world views are critical to generating and leading impactful change, and there are many initiatives and bold approaches that are having a significant impact and provide learnings for all.

By the end of this short course, we hope you will have a deepened or renewed awareness and sense of urgency to utilise tools and resources and think differently about what sustainability really means and how it can be applied in your organisations and communities. Specifically, you will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of the most commonly used terms, theories, and principles in relation to sustainability and the current conditions prompting change.
2. Evaluate and reflect on leadership for sustainability, innovative approaches to change, and the importance of diverse worldviews to generate impactful change.

Starting this week, we are going to look at commonly used sustainability terms and theories, and explore the urgency with which change is required by looking to key sustainability challenges facing the world. At the end of this week, you will have explored material to:

1. Understand a range of most commonly used terms, frameworks, and methodologies relating to sustainability.
2. Understand planetary boundaries and the need and opportunity to step up as leaders for a sustainable future now.
