Hi, all my name is Johan Casselgren. And I wish you all welcome to this course, snow, what it is and why it matters. And with this introduction, I would like to introduce myself. I am an associate professor at the subject experimental mechanics here at the Luleå University of Technology, and one of my main research topics is snow. Where I work with snow in many different applications like vehicles, tires, trains, wind power and skis.

The good thing with my work is that I also have an interest privately in the research as I really enjoy being out in the snow on my spare time skiing, driving snow mobile or just enjoying warm weather in the spring, sitting in the snow bivac that I just have dug. My hope is that I can transfer as much as possible of my knowledge to you. And with that I wish you all warm welcome to this course.
