Structure Planning for Tourism Growth
Hello welcome back everybody. Last time we talked about two things market and resource or resource and market. It is the base for all the tourism planning research. Today, we will turn to another job called structure planning for tourism growth. Structure planning or spatial structure planning, people use this term at the same time which could replace with each other. Structure means the relationship between node, route and people moving among those nodes through the route. those nodes through the route So, all the nodes and routes put together is the network. Many networks put together combine the spatial structure. It is from the perspective of the geography or urban planning we called spatial structure very often.
So for this part of the class we want to share with you that it is something like two things that one thing is to use the spatial structure theory to analyze or to organize many things together in the network. At the same time or the second aspect of the story is the demonstration of our result, research result, we want to draw a map or many maps to show to our client. Tourism planning without a map or a spatial structure, is impossible. It‘s very difficult to just talk. So, we need to make some maps to demonstrate the spatial structure to the people, to the society, to the government, to our client. So structure planning has two things.
One is the series of analysis and the second is to demonstrate your result. When we want to analyze our product the node. The node consists of many things also sometimes basically for town, city or transportation hub or a port, airport or sometimes like Kanas Lake in Xin Jiang, or sometimes like Kanas Lake in Xin Jiang it is independent or really remote area, it is attraction or national park. It‘s a node because people come together. A node is a people or facilities serve the people become many things put together in the space. So it‘s a node.
Many nodes are connected by the road, by the airline, the way, airway or railway or the cruise line between the different ports, all of these are routes. We want to analyze how many villages or the town in several national parks or a tourism region, we want to do some significant research to tell people that or to make a decision, this town is very important. Most of the tourists will come here first. So we want to invest majorly in this point and make a hub in the future. So it‘s the planning.
Today it is not a, is not a node or major node but with the research finding of the planning we want to make hierarchy, the first hierarchy, the very high level and second level and third level. So in the future the whole tourist region will consider different levels of the nodes or the center. So this is tourist destination zone we want to make just as the scientists said.
In this tourism destination zone, it needs the structure planning to identify the potential, the most important hub or the center for people and all the facilities to be built in this region and all the facilities to be built in this region like the hotel, the visitor center, the information center the police station. All things put together. And then we have a branch or network to serve to take care of all the region. So this region called tourist or tourism destination zone. In the tourist destination zone, we sometimes maybe need a heavy investment to build a tourism complex.
Tourism complex means many facilities put together like the hotels the restaurant the shopping center, the entertainment park and the parking lot for the drivers, all of drivers. So this is tourism complex. It more means that themed attractions or with some living facilities and shopping centers or something like that. So, in the modernized destination we maybe have one or two or many tourism complex like in Florida, we have many tourism complexes. like in Florida we have many tourism complexes Surely, the Orlando is the major tourism complex that there are many theme parks together like hotel, resort and golf course and wildlife all the thing together. I think this is a quite important concept when we make a spatial structure planning.
And also we have some in regional or in the tour city spatial development structure we want to make some implications and some concepts like a ReBAC or RBD. RBD is very often the recreation business district in downtown or near downtown. It could not be a RBD in a rural area. But for rural areas we have another concept we called it recreation belt around a city, a big city or mega city or a material point area. So when we call ReBAC it means that the recreation is not built around the material points If we call it ReBAC it means that the recreation belt around the city.
So, in the downtown we have RBD, in the rural area we have ReBAC So in the downtown we have RBD, in the rural area we have ReBAC it means the city itself is the major role in the tourism spatial structure. Because the city itself is the source of the consumer but itself is also a destination. So, at a destination we want to offer people for shopping, for just relaxation, for cup of coffee, for just nothing to do or just sitting down there and chatting with friends. This is RBD. RBD is built on the basis of old street or the mention or the old building of the museum or museum complex and the shopping street something together. So it‘s RBD.
You know many people live in the downtown on weekdays but in weekend and holiday they will go to the rural area around the city because it‘s very easy, it’s close to a city. It‘s quite different quality. Our research finds that people live even in America in the state of America fly to another country for holiday but not too many people do that very often. Maybe in four or three years they go abroad once. And only very limited percentage of people fly to other country very often. So, ReBAC is quite important for people who live in the urban area. So that‘s why ReBAC is very popular in many countries.
This concept is by me and I find that there are many developed facilities for citizens, for urban area people and they go to suburbs. This area is called ReBAC. We have other models or theories to help people to make a tourism spatial structure planning like travel flow, travel mode., Travel mode means the way in which you walk you walk on feet, by bicycle or drive a car or take a train. It‘s the travel mode. Travel mode is very important to form to influence your spatial structure. Flow means that how many people goes through specific way or the corridor space becomes a flow.
So we want to demonstrate or to describe the flow pattern and in terms of the pattern we have different spatial structures, Today we talk abut the making up of planning for the land, for the node and for the route, for the network and how to put them together as a spatial structure. Thank you.
