Hi, my name is David Chapman and I’m a teacher at Lulea University of Technology. I’m going to be your teacher for this course by background. I’m a trained architect and town planner, and I’ve had the privilege of working on projects both in Europe and America at the building and the urban scale. My focus and passion is designing places that are successful in terms of attracting people, investment and making areas of cities, towns or even rural areas that people want to be in.

Today, I’m an active researcher focusing on how we can look at climatic conditions to improve our experience of the built environment and how we can understand climate change and how this is affecting our uses of the city, I’m passionate about the idea of successful places. And through this course, I’m looking forward to exploring with you how we can use our understanding of climate and design to actually come forward with new strategies for change for both people who live in a place or coming in to visit as a tourist.
