Supporting anti-racism

In this article look back on learning throughout the course and understand how to support anti-racist organisations moving forwards.

Throughout this course, we’ve looked at various ways designers, technologists and users can support anti-racism in technology development. We have considered how to have honest conversations about race and how to contribute to anti-racism in organisations; we explored what anti-racist technologies might look like, and how to mitigate racism in user research, data gathering and use, implementation and testing.

We hope you have seen that there are a variety of ways to support anti-racism, ranging from developing an understanding of racism and anti-racism to supporting external communities to ensure that there is greater access to representative talent pools.

Supporting the community

Support the community to enable more people to enter the industry and progress through the tech industry. This will ensure that the tech workforce is well represented, this can be done through:

  • Providing or creating mentorship, sponsorship and fellowship programmes
  • Providing or enabling tech training programmes
  • Donating to community organisations to enable their programmes and operations
  • Collaborating on events

These actions will help support anti-racism in tech by ensuring equal access to the tech industry and access to opportunity.
