Advertisements, also known as integrated media communications and promotion, are both used as marketing tactics to get product information out to consumers. Advertising is most commonly done by medium to large companies, as it can be quite costly.

However, small businesses can find creative ways to advertise for less, especially by utilising the internet and social media. When you pay to place advertisements in your local newspaper or magazine or other advertising vehicle, the assumption is that your efforts will lead to sales.

Advertisements can have a positive effect on overall sales with increased profits, but it takes longer to achieve results. A primary goal of advertisements is brand-building.
