Sonar

In this article, a type of active sensor, SONAR is discussed.

SONAR or Sound Navigation and Ranging is an ultrasonic sensor that utilizes travelling sound waves to navigate and detect objects around the robot.

The sensors provide an accurate range of distance of the object from the robot. In robotics, they have primarily used proximity sensors. These sensors allow actuation of the desired response when an event occurs close to the robot that is picked up by the sensor such as automatic doors, sliders, gates etc.
