Designing a strategy: peer review assignment
In this peer review activity you are encouraged to design a strategy aimed at increasing recruitment of qualified nurses.

Having considered the many challenges facing nursing, you now have a chance to explore what it is that attracts people to nursing, and how we can develop these valued aspects of the role.

Your task

Imagine your local hospital has lost a large number of nurses due to migration and retirement recently. Recruitment is low. You are a Director of Nursing charged with designing a strategy aimed at increasing recruitment of qualified nurses to your area of nursing practice.
Be creative but realistic and be prepared to justify your decisions to others.
Describe your strategy to include:
  • Shift patterns
  • Eligibility criteria (person specification)
  • Pay (annual salary) and conditions (holiday entitlement, development opportunities)
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Any other selling points
