The Summer School

The Summer School - details of the course and who is eligible to apply.

I chose to apply to this summer school because I consider myself to be quite a practical person, so I thought real estate would be quite a practical career. And there wasn’t much information out there on what it actually means to be in the property industry, so I thought it would be a good idea to see what kind of careers there are and speak to professionals firsthand. I learned what a surveyor is and what it is that they do day-to-day. I learned all about the different responsibilities that they have in this profession. And for me, I think it made real estate really exciting, all the different roles. Because there’s not one fixed job role. It’s very varied.

You meet new people on a daily basis and you get to travel around a lot more, so no day would be the same. And I think that’s quite exciting, just meeting new people and seeing how the world works. One of the standout moments from the summer school was being a part of a team that won best presentation at the end of the summer scheme. It was really amazing to be standing in front of the people in the industry and showcase all that we’d done, all that we’d built up and learned from the entire experience. And you have the chance, at the end of the summer school, just to chat to surveyors and different people in the industry.

Just meeting a lot of people from the industry within real estate, it’s been really encouraging and really inspiring. And seeing the feats they’ve accomplished, it’s been nice to see. It really consolidated, for me, that property is the industry that I want to be in. I think that was a key takeaway of the Pathways to Property summer scheme, knowing what you were going into and feeling like you could be a part of something in the future.
