Having considered what we mean by advocacy, enablement and mediation, we now go on to consider how we might apply all three approaches in practice with a case study.

Your task

A 15-year-old female patient arrives in your surgery. She is upset and thinks she may be pregnant. You get her to take a pregnancy test, which is positive. Thinking about advocacy, enablement and mediation, what would you do?

Give consideration in the response to your health-promoting practice and that of others. Share your thoughts in the discussion with your colleagues.

Please cite your country in your response. Different countries will deal with young people differently as laws are not universal.
