Political Factors
Political factors are those relating to government policies and administrative practices that actors across the food chain must adhere to.
For example, in the development of food sensing technologies for food safety, detection methods used to determine if a contaminant is present in the food must be validated as fit for purpose to ensure it can survive the rigours of a legal process and provide sufficient confidence in the safety of the food.
A number of analytical methods are validated in the European Commission decision 2002/657. The validation allows the user to determine and demonstrate the methods performance and to challenge the method. This allows the user to verify the result for legal implications and assure the correct results are retrieved from a particular method.
