Final Challenge

<v Speaker 1>. As we come to the end of our Future Learn course, I would like to issue a final challenge and also tell you how you can deepen your learning about Strategic Doing even further. First, the challenge. Use what you’ve learned. Put it into practice right away. We have one colleague who told us that she has put the four questions of Strategic Doing on the back of her office door and she uses that to guide her phone conversations. If she’s talking with someone and the content of that conversation is not helping to answer one of
50.8
those for strategic doing questions:. What could we do? What should we do? What will we do? And what our 30/30? Then that’s not a very strategic conversation. I also urge you to experiment. Try just one thing you’ve learned and see if that improves productivity; makes you more strategic. Maybe you are leading a small group to do some problem solving. Instead of merely thinking vertically or deeply about the problem, think horizontally across organizational units. Combine resources that exist in separate silos to see if that leads you to a different set of strategic solutions. Like a golfer trying to improve their swing, experiment. Try a slightly different grip or maybe even a different stance. See what works in practice.

Some of you I know will want to learn more. And there is much more to be learned. Consider attending our professional development

course called Strategic Doing 301: Leading Complex Collaborations. This is a two and a half day high energy, interactive masterclass offered several times each year and both the US and internationally. In it you delve deeply into a set of ten rules that lie beneath the four questions and you learn how to use those rules to guide system wide strategic transformation in organizations or communities. You’ll learn from case studies where Strategic Doing has been applied successfully in a wide

variety of contexts: from urban neighborhoods plagued by wicked problems, to companies practicing open innovation, to really large organizations like NASA trying to increase collaboration across multiple units. You’ll also get a chance to practice in a

simulation we call Strategic Doing: The Game. Now after attending this course you can complete a capstone experience that leads to becoming a certified Strategic Doing Workshop Leader, joining an international learning community of practitioners. You can find out more at our web site. Others might be considering advancing their formal education. They might want to look at the online graduate program offered through Purdue. The Masters of Science in Engineering Technology is designed for working professionals with undergraduate degrees in engineering technology, engineering, science, information technology, or business. One of the core courses in that program is called Collaborative Leadership & Agile Strategy and it goes deep into the science of collaboration and the practice of Agile Strategy.
