Week 2 Summary

In this second and final week of the course we explored how social media can be made to work for us on a professional basis - for example to mobilise support around a product or cause, find a job or develop a career path

We began the week with an introduction to social media marketing and the opportunities and challenges it presents, particularly to organisations operating on very limited budgets (Steps 2.1 to 2.7)

We discussed the need to develop our own professional digital networks, and introduced you to the concept of ‘digital capabilities’ as a framework to describe the diverse range of skills required to do this well (Steps 2.8 to 2.10)

We considered how the world of recruitment is changing as employers and potential employees use social tools to check each other out (Steps 2.11 to 2.13)

Finally, you had the opportunity to take part in an interactive exercise and engage with our undergraduate students in relation to the videos they have produced for their Online Social Networks module (Steps 2.14 to 2.15). If you have not yet commented on their work or had a go at creating and sharing your own video, there is still time to do so!
