Introduction

Introduction to the topic of HRM architecture.
2.2
Welcome to today’s MOOC session! My name is Maarten Renkema, researcher and teacher at the university Twente. The topic of this session is HRM Architecture, speficially we will focus on the employment portfolio. Last session, we focused on HRM outcomes and how and why employees contribute to these outcomes. However, it would too simplistic to look at how individuals contribute to these outcomes in the same way. Look around you, you will hopefully see and enjoy the differences! To affectively manage your firm, you need to know how employees align in order to gain a competitive advantage. To achieve this, you need to look at how employees add value to your organization.

For example, construction workers contribute to the organization in a different way than sales representatives. Whereas construction workers contribute to your firm by constructing and building effectively and efficiently, sales representatives add value by gaining new projects. But how can organizations design HRM systems that match employee contributions? And how can organizations develop different employment groups that ensure that employees contribute in their own way? Those are the questions that will be addressed in this session.

dr. Maarten Renkema is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Twente in the field of Human Resource Management & Innovation. In this video, Maarten introduces you to this session’s topic: Human Resource Architecture. We will focus on the employment portfolio.
