Ideas for building a persona

To paraphrase an ancient African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child". In a similar vein, it takes a team to create a great persona.

But this is in stark contrast to the reality of the new small business owner who is more often than not operating with a team of one!

It can be very challenging to create a persona solely from your own viewpoint. The best personas are designed and built with others involved. By including others, you are able to access a range of opinions and perspectives (regarding the data you have collected), their knowledge and the brainstorming energy to develop a persona.

Conversely, when you don’t include others your personal bias may creep in and you may start creating who you think the persona should represent rather than the true representation of your customer or consumer.

So, when you have gathered your data and you have your facts, gather those people who may have also been involved in the activity of profiling, researching and developing the customer journey. They can help you build a great persona.
